OPINIONS varied from “perfectly pleasant” and “fresh taste” to “fruity” and “different”. But no one died or even threw up last week when ¿ìè¶ÌÊÓÆµ staff sampled the first beer brewed with genetically modified ingredients to go on sale in Europe.
Kenth lager is named after Kenth Persson, a brewer in Sweden who developed the beer with Bioteknikcentrum, a PR organisation representing Sweden’s biotech industry. “It’s the first GM-labelled product in Sweden, and the first GM-labelled beer in the world,” says Mattias Zetterstrand of Bioteknikcentrum.
