A four-year experiment designed to show whether genetically engineered crops
are more harmful to wildlife than conventional varieties has been disrupted by
environmental activists. Transgenic oilseed rape plants at Watlington in
Oxfordshire, one of five sites in Britain where “farm scale” trials of modified
crops are under way, were trampled and pulled up.
