Diseases such as BSE make it vital for farmers to know the history of their
beasts鈥攂ut registering the animals involves a mountain of paperwork. Now
after a successful pilot study involving 60 farmers and 10 000 cattle, Graham
Technology of Glasgow has just launched a new online service which allows
British farmers to register their herds on the Internet. The service, called
Elite Traceability, makes it possible to trace the movement and treatment of an
animal throughout its life. Intelligent software warns the user of any errors
they might key in.
