For the couch potato who just can’t get up, the British firm Celtel of
Basingstoke has developed a 拢50 device which lets remote controls work
anywhere. The Clipper is a combined miniature radio transmitter and infrared
receiver that clips to the front of an ordinary remote control. It converts the
zapper’s infrared pulses into radio signals and transmits them up to 50 metres
away where they are converted back into infrared light pulses. So the remote can
switch on a satellite receiver, TV or VCR in another room.
