Chrysler, meanwhile, has unveiled an electric car that also uses petrol, but
gives excellent fuel efficiency. The hybrid engine combines vapourised petrol
with air to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide. By turning hydrogen and oxygen
into water via a catalyst membrane, it frees electrons to power an electric
motor. Arthur D. Little, the engineering firm involved in developing the fuel
cell for Chrysler, claims cars could get 28 kilometres to the litre.
