In his talk, Rees will address themes from his latest book On the future: prospects for humanity, including the likely impact of the world鈥檚 population growing to as many as 11 billion people, and the dangers posed by biotechnology and advanced artificial intelligence. In exploring these, he will call for international guidelines to promote the maximum benefits of new technologies, while minimising their potentially catastrophic risks.
