Compound eyeline

Drivers can easily be dazzled when the sun is low in the sky ahead. We can cope with this by shading our eyes with one hand, for example, but how do insects manage? On a clear day, some sections of their compound eyes must, unavoidably, end up pointed directly at the sun. How do insects maintain effective vision in that direction while avoiding damage of the kind that mammals鈥 eyes could all too easily suffer?
