Read our interview with the stool鈥檚 maker, Philip Ross: 鈥Moulding fungal furniture the (un)natural way鈥.
Ross, an , says he 鈥渏ust allows these 鈥榤onstrosities鈥 to emerge鈥. However, his incredibly beautiful chairs, footstools and tables will withstand weight, falls and a fair bit of fire or water before they degrade. Fungal furniture outlasts everyday wares easily, Ross says.
Fear not, his rot is not a danger to your living room. Once a piece has developed to his liking, Ross kills the fungus in a 67聽掳C oven and coats it with a biodegradable lacquer. That means the finished furniture is dead and spores to spread it no longer form.
