Plane thinking

What is the lowest speed at which a full-size fixed-wing aircraft can fly without stalling?

I won’t offer to demonstrate that flying an aeroplane down the approach into either a flat calm or a headwind of 25 knots requires the same airspeed, but to suggest otherwise is a fundamental and potentially fatal error.

In a light aircraft with an approach speed of 65 knots, the only difference in the two situations is that the latter takes longer – groundspeed is 40 knots. Indeed, at higher headwinds, it is good practice to fly a faster and steeper approach to allow for any sudden reduction in wind speed (and hence airspeed) caused by wind shear.
