This analysis is supplementary information for our story 鈥�US stem cell research in robust health鈥�.
快猫短视频 searched the for research papers published in 2011 mentioning various types of stem cell. For comparison with another leading biotechnology, we also searched for papers mentioning RNA interference.
The results indicate that the US enjoys a dominant position in research on (ESCs) and similarly versatile (iPSCs). The US also leads in work on adult and on RNA interference, although by smaller margins.

Searches back to 2000 also suggest that the US contribution to work on human embryonic stem cells has stayed at roughly the same proportional level over the past decade.
To our knowledge, only three clinical trials involving treatments derived from human ESCs have been approved, all in the US; therapies derived from iPSCs have not yet entered clinical trials.
Our analysis of searches at suggests that some other countries are moving more quickly than the US into trials of novel therapies involving mesenchymal stem cells. This seems to reflect regulatory caution on the part of the US . The US dominates the listings for current trials on blood stem cells, which have been in clinical use for many years. Here, the risks are better understood and FDA approval is easier to obtain.
