LAVISH photography and computer graphics aid as he takes apart some of the 20th century’s greatest inventions – the aeroplane, the spacesuit, the microwave oven, to name three – and explains what makes these devices tick. He provides a peek into the future too, covering bionic eyes, hover bikes and 3D printers. The book is aimed at children, so the scientific detail may be too light for geekier techies, but for the rest of us it serves as a stunning reminder of the ingenuity behind innovations we all too often take for granted.
