Wikileaks website in the clear

A court case against a site that helps whistle-blowers disseminate leaked information is dropped

A case brought against whistle-blowing site by Swiss bank has been dropped.

The bank dismissed its actions against Wikileaks and the company that sold the site its US domain without explanation, but left open the possibility of filing another lawsuit in the same or in a different court.

Julius Baer launched a lawsuit in the Federal District Court in San Francisco after Wikileaks posted information about its offshore banking practices provided by a former employee, including private account-holder information.

Judge Jeffrey White controversially ordered the closure of Wikileaks’ US web domain – www.wikileaks.org – before reversing his decision after opposition from civil rights groups.

He also questioned whether technology was undermining the authority of the law after many duplicate, or mirror, versions of Wikileaks sprang up outside the US.
