Not-so-wild America

AS an exploration of the American conservation movement and its place in the nation鈥檚 psyche, it would be hard to find a better guidebook than this. It shows how the history of conservation in the US, where the pioneer ethic of taming nature still dominates, is underpinned by cultural values very different to those in Europe. It鈥檚 about making money, and wild nature is condemned to the fringes. Freyfogle is a student of law and human nature as well as conservation, and suggests ways to improve the situation.

Why Conservation is Failing and How it can Regain Ground.
