Dormice by Pat Morris, Whittet Books, Ipswich, UK 拢9.99, ISBN 1873580649 Reviewed by John Bonner
THERE is one big advantage in studying species that spend three-quarters of their life asleep: once you have spotted one you don鈥檛 need to look far to find it again.
But apart from its drowsy demeanour, little else was known about Britain鈥檚 only native dormouse, Muscardinus avellanarius, until biologist Pat Morris began his 20-year labour of love. His book is a billet-doux to the hazel dormouse, one of Europe鈥檚 most endearing creatures, and to the introduced edible dormouse, Glis glis, which is not as cuddly as it looks.
