Clubbers vote for the vibe

Hewlett-Packard, which previously dabbled with a robot replacement for DJs, is now hoping to help DJs catch the mood of dancers in large clubs (US 2003/44021 and GB 2379016).

Usually it鈥檚 difficult for a DJ to see how dancers are responding to the music. So HP has come up with mood-sensing wristwatches for clubbers to wear. Dancers press a 鈥渢humbs up鈥 or 鈥渢humbs down鈥 button on the watch to signify what they think of a tune, and the result is sent to a screen in the DJ鈥檚 booth via a low-power wireless link with receivers in the ceiling. The watches also pick up clubbers鈥 temperatures and pulse rates, and motion sensors monitor how enthusiastically they are dancing.
