Concern over radiation from cellphone masts has prompted the Alan Campbell
Group, a firm in Warwick, to come up with a device to monitor it (GB 2361144).
The patent warns that while electromagnetic radiation from a base station may be
within safety limits, relay stations added to fill in reception black spots can
lead to radiation hotspots. To reassure the public, it suggests installing
electric and magnetic field monitors near main masts. The monitors continually
compare the total radiation in the area with guideline levels. If power levels
are exceeded, a cellphone built into the monitor automatically sends a text
message to engineers saying the site should be checked.
