Local, seasonally correct weather will make computer games more realistic,
says Sony (WO 01/70357). Car racing and flight simulations can already create
background pictures of weather, so that cars drive through rain, fog, snow or
sunshine, and planes can be made to contend with icy wings and clouds. But snow
looks wrong if you鈥檙e playing the game in Borneo, and too much sunshine makes
play unrealistic under Britain鈥檚 largely grey skies. Sony plans to use
international climate data to pre-program games so the weather changes with the
seasons.
