Altered image

Imax, the company that produces giant-screen movies, now wants to go
electronic with a large-format video projector). They use a microchip covered
with tiny mirrors to reflect light onto the screen. The brightness of the image
is limited by the amount of light that can be reflected off the mirrors without
damaging them, and the size of the gaps between the mirrors limits the picture’s
clarity. So Imax uses two separate mirror projectors (WO 01/69941/2, with their
images very slightly misaligned. The projectors shine images alternately onto
the screen—giving twice the normal movie speed of 24 frames per second.
The brain blends the images so you perceive twice the brightness. And the slight
displacement of the images fills holes in the image created by the gaps between
mirrors.
