Drivers can look forward to highly accurate warnings about local traffic
jams, thanks to a system being patented by the Rover Group Advanced Technology
Centre in Warwick (GB 2 346 244). Radio stations already broadcast news about
jams, but the information covers a wide area. Rover wants to create a network of
very low-power radio transmitters which would send a signal to a modified car
radio. The radio would identify the vehicle’s position by the signals and then
filter the traffic news so that drivers only receive the information they need.
