It’s far better to have your cat mark its territory inside your house with
its cheek gland secretions than its urine. So in GB 2 345 635, Dynavet of France
has patented a mix of fatty acids that encourages a cat to brush its cheek over
an area, rather than urinate (GB 2 345 635). The mix—which includes oleic,
caproic and aminovaleric acids—is freeze-dried with gelatin to produce
microcapsules. These are then sold as a spray, paste or a waxy stick. After this
is wiped over a surface in your home, the cat is more likely to rub its cheek on
that patch than to spray urine.
