WINNING once helps you to win again. 快猫短视频s in Wisconsin have found that
mice do better in fights if they have beaten a rival days before. They suspect
this so-called 鈥渨inner effect鈥 also applies to humans.
Small fish behave more aggressively for hours after beating a competitor.
鈥淏ut no one has looked at this in mammals before,鈥 says Temitayo Oyegbile from
the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Oyegbile allowed territorial mice, Peromyscus californicus, to win
up to three fights against smaller rivals in contests two days apart. She then
introduced a larger intruder, declaring a win if one mouse retreated or adopted
a submissive posture.

Mice with no wins under their belt tended to succumb to the intruders. But
with a few wins behind them, they hung on longer and won more often than they
lost. Blood samples taken from some mice after a win showed a rise in
testosterone, which has been linked to aggression. Intriguingly, tennis players
also get a testosterone rush after winning a game, says Oyegbile鈥檚 supervisor
Catherine Marler.
